From Halifax, we sailed northeast and arrived at Cape Breton Island today. Because of the winds, the captain elected to anchor offshore. As a result, we had to tender to shore.

Boarding the tender

Because boarding by tender ship operation is much slower than everyone leaving the gangway, this cut into the time we had available on shore. Some of us grumbled about it.

We also learned that our destination, the Alexander Graham Bell Museum was closed for repair. In late 2022, the much of the area including the museum sustained damage during Hurricane Fiona.

It was about 1.5 hours before we arrived in Baddeck, the hometown of Alexander Graham Bell. We were directed to the town’s conference center where we learned Bell’s past from a museum guide.

Bell is best known as being the inventor of the telephone. Many is us were unaware of his interest in aviation, kites and leveraging tetrahedral’s natural ability for strength.

Fortunately, our bus driver stopped a couple of times for us to take a few pictures, one was in front of the museum. There, Peggy reminisced about when she visited many years ago.

We set sail at 7 p.m. this evening headed west to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
